The Governor is head of the Executive branch and the leader of the State.

The Governor works with State Senators and Representatives to pass laws that will help the State and citizens of Texas.

The Governor's job includes representing Texas at various ceremonies. This means traveling around the State as well as outside Texas and the U.S. as the Ambassador of Texas. The Governor meets with leaders from other states and countries making friends and partners to strengthen the future of Texas.

signingAdditionally, before any bill can become a law, it must pass through the Governor's office, where it will be signed into law or vetoed.

The Governor is the only person who has the power to call a special session. Special Sessions bring the Legislature back to meet on issues that they didn't have time to finish during the regular session. Sometimes four months isn't enough time to get everything done!
