State Representatives speak for the people of Texas. They are men and women who have been chosen to create new state laws at the Capitol in Austin.

There are 150 State Representatives in Texas. They work at the capitol for two years. This is called a term. If they want to stay longer, they must campaign to remain in office every two years.

Since the Texas legislature only meets on odd number years, State Representatives have other full time jobs while not in session. Some of their jobs include: professor, farmer, small business owner, fast food restaurant owner, attorney, pharmacist and businessman.
